Why this smoothie works

  • Fruit provides carbohydrate for your daily food intake
  • No protein powder or added sweetener required
  • A lighter, pourable texture with measured portions

Ingredients

1 serving

The method

Let’s blend this.

Keep this one bright and easy to sip. Starting with the liquids lets a modest amount of fruit blend without needing extra ice.

0 / 4 done
  1. 30 seconds prep

Start with a cool liquid base

Pour the soy milk, cold water and lime juice into the blender jug. Break the banana into three or four pieces and add it on top.

Your cue: The liquid should surround the blades, with soft banana sitting above it.

  2. Add the mango in small pieces

Separate any frozen mango pieces stuck together before adding them. If you have a small blender, let very hard fruit soften briefly rather than forcing a solid block through the blades.

Your cue: Aim for loose, bite-sized pieces that can circulate in the jug.

  3. 40–55 seconds blending

Blend low, then bring up the speed

Secure the lid. Start low for about 10 seconds, then blend at a higher speed for 30–45 seconds. Stop the motor before scraping any fruit from the sides.

Your cue: Look for an even golden colour with no visible mango chunks.

  4. Make it easy to sip

Check the pour. If it falls in thick blobs, blend in one tablespoon of water at a time. Taste before adding anything else; the ripe banana and mango already bring sweetness.

Your cue: The finished smoothie should pour in a continuous ribbon rather than hold a spoon upright.

The finish line

Here’s what you’re aiming for.

Pour into a glass and drink at a pace and time that feels comfortable before your usual workout. Start with a smaller portion if a full smoothie feels heavy.

Too thick, thin or grainy?

Blending times are starting points; use the texture cues and your blender’s instructions. Loading order is for a typical upright jug. Switch off before scraping or tasting, and never put utensils into moving blades.

Pro tips

  • Contains soy. Use a suitable alternative if needed and recalculate the nutrition; plant milks are not nutritionally interchangeable.
  • This is a snack idea, not a complete meal or a guaranteed performance boost. Pre-workout tolerance differs from person to person.
  • Using fresh mango makes a thinner drink. Chill the ingredients first rather than adding a large quantity of ice.
