Golden Turmeric Ginger Shot
Turmeric, orange and ginger make a vivid golden drink with a warm, citrus finish. Black pepper is optional for flavour, not a guaranteed absorption effect.
Illustrative recipe imageWhy this shot works
- Orange softens the earthy turmeric flavour
- Small batch with measured ingredient amounts
- Can be strained for a smoother finish
Ingredients
6 servings- 60 gfresh turmeric root, or 1.5 tbsp ground
- 40 gfresh ginger root
- 2oranges, juiced
- 1lemon, juiced
- 1/4 tspblack pepper, freshly ground, optional
- 1/2 cupwater
The method
Blend, strain & pour.
Treat this like a small batch of fresh juice: blend the roots, strain the fibres, then stir in the freshly squeezed citrus.

Prepare the roots & citrus
Wash and finely chop the turmeric and ginger, trimming tough areas. Juice the oranges and lemon separately and remove seeds. Protect your work surface because turmeric can stain.
Your cue: If using the listed ground-turmeric alternative, measure it before blending.
Blend · about 45 sec
Blend into a fine pulp
Add water, turmeric and ginger to the jug. Secure the lid and blend, starting low, for about 45 seconds. Stop and check that the fresh roots have broken down before continuing.
Your cue: Fresh roots should look finely shredded, with no large pieces left.
Separate the fibres
Pour through a fine-mesh sieve set over a jug. Press gently with a spoon to release the juice. Ground turmeric may pass through the sieve; that is expected.
Your cue: The strained liquid will still be cloudy and deeply coloured.
Whisk & portion
Whisk in the orange juice and lemon juice, plus black pepper if using. Divide into six portions, cover and refrigerate promptly. Stir or shake before serving to redistribute settled turmeric.
Your cue: An even orange colour after stirring is your finishing cue.
The finish line
Here’s what you’re aiming for.
A vivid orange, lightly cloudy shot. Ground turmeric gives a more powdery finish than fresh root.
Blending times are starting points; use the texture cues and your blender’s instructions. Loading order is for a typical upright jug. Switch off before scraping or tasting, and never put utensils into moving blades.
Pro tips
- Wear gloves. Fresh turmeric stains hands and countertops.
- Adjust turmeric and pepper for flavour. Adding oil or pepper does not establish a medical benefit for this drink.
Frequently asked questions
It adds a sharp, peppery flavour and is optional. Research on piperine and curcumin absorption does not show that this recipe treats inflammation or infection.
